Vivian Hordes | A13 | Print Maker

Focusing primarily in printmaking for the last 10 years has given me an appreciation for the wondrous quality of not only the numerous printing papers which are available, but also the range of techniques that can be mixed to create printed images.
My work includes diverse processes including intaglio, monotype, collograph, and woodcut. An example of combined technical processes is represented in “Crossing Over” in which the image was created from one carborundum plate using multiple printings for each color and an etched copper plate. The resultant image communicates a sense of metamorphosis of human and bird. Metamorphosis is an ancient theme traced as far back as the Paleolithic Age.
I create images that allow and draw the viewer’s ‘eye’ into an inward realm of reflection, memory and mystery. Drawing inspiration from nature, many of my images highlight that theme. I enjoy the challenges inherent in the techniques and processes of making a print and hope my work conveys interest and an esthetic strength reflecting my imagination and creativity.
